Are there FitBALL exercises that target lower
back pain?
Submitted By: Francis
I have the DVD's and use them. But, are there
FitBall exercises that specifically target lower
back pain? Maybe there is an cross reference of
exercise to core muscle group.
Taralyn's Answer:
Absolutely! Using the FitBALL for lower back
exercises is a great way to strengthen your back
muscles, improve posture and mobility of the spine,
decrease lower back pain, and prevent back injury.
There are several FitBALL exercises that
specifically target the lower back muscles, but keep
in mind that it is important to train all muscle
groups. If you are short on time and solely focusing
on the lower back muscles, be sure to also do a few
exercises for the abdominals which are the opposing
muscle group to the lower back muscles.
Here are a few examples of great lower back
exercises, all done from a prone position (lying
over the ball). Aim for 8-12 repetitions of each
exercise.
If you are a beginner, start kneeling on the floor,
resting your trunk and chin on the ball with your
arms at your side. Lift your head, shoulders and
chest off the ball. Return to starting position slowly.
To increase the intensity level, start in the same
position, with both hands behind your head. Lift
your head, shoulders, and chest off the ball, and
then return to starting position.
